Sam Winchester is played by Jared Padalecki and is the younger brother to Dean Winchester. His parents are John Winchester & Mary Winchester, both deceased.

Samuel William "Sam" Winchester was born on May 2, 1983--four years after Dean--in Lawrence, Kansas. On November 2, 1983, When Sam was six months old, a demon, Azazel, fed Sam demon blood as a way to attempt to turn him into one of the "special children". When Mary walked into the nursery, she was pinned to ceiling above the nursey before the Azazel set the house on fire.

Sam was protected by his father as he grew up, and wasn't explained the existance of monsters until he found out through his dad's journal. When Sam grew old enough, he realized he didn't want to follow in his neither his father's or brother's footsteps ("saving people, hunting things") and instead went to Stanford to try and be a lwayer.

Sam, while mostly the opposite of the two brothers, is usually empathetic and independent. But he can be cold and cruel if the situation calls for it. Sam tends to be driven by feelings of anger and vengeance and Sam deliberately chooses to reject his "darker side."
